New Beginnings at Earth + Sky

By Katinka Locascio

I started Earth + Sky in 2001, one day out of massage school and full of awe and excitement for what the body can do. I loved seeing how skilled and listening hands could impact, and indeed change physiology to make way for healing. From that moment on, Earth + Sky’s mission has always been to bring together the subtle and the science-driven aspects of bodywork. Over the past 19 years, Earth + Sky has matured into something far greater than I could have imagined as other talented and dedicated practitioners have joined our team, bringing with them new skills like Acupuncture and various Massage modalities.

As we begin 2021, a year in which the healing arts will be much needed,I am happy to announce that Earth + Sky will also be embarking on a new beginning. I’m so thrilled to share that two of our team, Cynthia McCright and Kenna Bouvet, are taking over as the owners and directors of Earth + Sky. After more than a year of careful planning (this decision predated the pandemic) and a successful reopening after COVID closures, Cynthia and Kenna have shown grace and determination as they have gently stepped forward into their new roles.

I feel an immense sense of gratitude for the ease and beauty of this transition. I know that Kenna and Cynthia will carry forward the vision and spirit of Earth + Sky, and more importantly will continue to grow and evolve the business into something even better. Beyond their mastery of skills, these women bring incredible heart and passion for their work. On the eve of the winter solstice, we gathered to honor the transition with a ceremony (crafted for us by one of our massage therapists, Anna). My heart was full seeing Cynthia and Kenna, lighting a candle to signify new beginnings as they stepped up as owners of Earth + Sky. It takes so much courage, determination, and love to carry forward a small business. It takes so much more than that to do so during a global pandemic, but these two do so with a passion for the healing arts and a decade of experience between the two of them. (#DreamTeam!)

I also would also be remiss if I did not speak to the immense gratitude I feel for all of you who have supported Earth + Sky to this point. Whether as a client coming in to let us be a part of your healing and self-care, as a colleague offering support and entrusting us with referrals, or as a mentor helping us grow in our work. You know who you are, and we appreciate all of you more than you know.

Though I am stepping back from my role, I do plan to continue seeing clients and offering zoom classes from the UWS come spring. For those who would like to stay in touch, you can reach me at katinkalocascioLMT@gmail.com or sign up for my newsletters here. I also look forward to continuing my connection to Earth + Sky by contributing to staff trainings, joining the monthly clinical roundtables, and most joyfully as a client. This group is one of the most talented sets of bodyworkers I know!

I know 2020 has been a challenging year for many. But it has also been a year that has highlighted our resilience and brought into focus what really matters. As we begin to unwind and move forward into healing, all of us in the larger Earth + Sky community look forward to being here to support each of you with our hearts and our hands.

Wishing you all a bright start to 2021,

Katinka Locascio

Former Director and Owner of Earth + Sky Healing Arts
